Two of Britain's biggest airlines, EasyJet and Virgin, could head up a consortium to take over London Gatwick Airport. EasyJet and Virgin Atlantic are thought to be considering making a £1.5 billion offer for the airport, which is currently owned by BAA.
BAA ACTED AGAINST PUBLIC INTEREST AT STANSTED AIRPORT
The Competition Commission has ruled that British Airport Authority (BAA), which owns seven airports in the UK, has acted against the public interest in its management of Stansted Airport in London.
RYANAIR WARNS OF CANARY ISLAND ROUTE TO CLOSE
Ryanair, a low-cost carrier, issued a warning that it would stop all service from the Canary Islands from 31 January unless the local travel group AIE honoured its “commercial agreement” to endorse Fuerteventura tourism.
THOMSONFLY CUTS COVENTRY SERVICES
ThomsonFly, a low cost airline, said it is suspending its operations from Coventry Airport from November 2008. The increased focus on charter flights rather than scheduled flights operating from Coventry airport is the main reason ThomsonFly took this decision.
