|
Edinburgh International Airport is Scotland's fastest growing airport, situated just 12km west of the city centre and easy to reach with reliable bus and taxi services. Edinburgh International Airport opened in 2001 and now handles over five million passengers serving 56 destinations worldwide. There are more than 30 daily flights to London’s five airports, with regular flights to other major cities in the UK and overseas. There are plans to expand Edinburgh International Airport by adding a further runway, although this is unlikely to be required within the next 20 years. BAA has recently made provision for an extension to the current runway, which would allow larger aircraft to serve longer haul destinations, as it is predicted that by 2030 Edinburgh International Airport will be Scotland's busiest, handling 26 million passengers every year.
